Hohhot is the capital and largest city of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in northern China, serving as the region's administrative, economic and cultural center. Its population was about 3.4 million at the 2020 census. Its Mongolian name means "Blue City," and the city has been known historically as Guihua and Kweisui. Hohhot is home to Inner Mongolia University and, since a 2005 designation, has been called the "Dairy Capital of China," hosting the major dairy producers Mengniu and Yili.
