Andijan

Andijan is a city in eastern Uzbekistan and the administrative, economic and cultural center of Andijan Region, sitting at the southeastern edge of the Fergana Valley near the Kyrgyzstan border. More than 2,500 years old, with archeological finds dating to the 7th and 8th centuries BCE, it is counted among Uzbekistan's oldest cities and is the birthplace of Babur, founder of the Mughal dynasty in India. Rebuilt after a devastating 1902 earthquake and developed as an industrial center under Soviet rule, Andijan had 501,131 residents in 2024 and is one of the most densely populated cities in the country.
