Bekabad, also spelled Bekobod and formerly called Begovat, is a city in Tashkent Region, eastern Uzbekistan, on the Syr Darya River near the border with Tajikistan. It grew up around a cement plant and then a steel plant built between 1942 and 1944, gaining city status in 1945, and today hosts the Uzmetkombinat steel works alongside the Farkhad hydroelectric dam just upstream.
