Chirchiq

Chirchiq is a city in Tashkent Region in eastern Uzbekistan, about 32 kilometers northeast of the capital along the Chirchiq River in the Chatkal Mountains. It was founded in 1935 when several villages merged following construction of a hydroelectric power station on the river. Its population was about 162,800 in 2021. Chirchiq is an industrial center producing fertilizers, ferroalloys and agricultural machinery, an agricultural hub for vegetables and fruit, and a source of drinking water for Tashkent and southern cities through a diversion on the Chirchiq River.
