Oceania is the region of the Pacific Ocean comprising the continent of Australia together with Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia, the thousands of islands scattered across the central and southern Pacific from New Guinea to Easter Island. As a region it is distinct from the continent of Australia alone.
