A vast subtropical wetland in southern Florida, formed by a slow-moving sheet of water draining from Lake Okeechobee toward Florida Bay. It is home to distinctive sawgrass marshes and mangrove forests and hosts a wide array of wildlife, including alligators and numerous wading bird species.
