Niagara Falls

Niagara Falls is a group of three waterfalls on the Niagara River along the border between Ontario, Canada, and New York State, made up of the large Horseshoe Falls, which straddles the international boundary, and the smaller American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls, which lie entirely in the United States. Horseshoe Falls is about 57 meters high and 790 meters wide, while American Falls ranges from 21 to 30 meters high across a width of 320 meters, and together the falls carry the highest flow rate of any waterfall in North America and the seventh-highest in the world, averaging about 2,400 cubic meters per second and reaching peaks of 6,370 cubic meters per second. The falls lie about 27 kilometers northwest of Buffalo and 69 kilometers southeast of Toronto, and their distinctive green color comes from dissolved salts and fine rock particles suspended in the water.
