A major tributary of the Parana, flowing south from Brazil through the Pantanal wetlands and along the length of Paraguay to its confluence with the Parana. It divides Paraguay into two distinct geographic regions and provides the landlocked country's main outlet to the sea via the Parana-Paraguay waterway.
