A unique sea within the North Atlantic defined not by any coastline but by ocean currents, bounded on all sides by the swirling Atlantic gyre and named for the free-floating sargassum seaweed that mats its surface. It is the only sea in the world with no land boundary at all, and is the spawning ground for both American and European eels.
