Scoresby Sund

Scoresby Sund, also called Scoresbysund or Kangertittivaq, is a fjord system on the eastern coast of Greenland, opening into the Greenland Sea, with a main body about 110 kilometers long and branches extending 340 to 350 kilometers further inland in a tree-like pattern that includes the Nordvestfjord, Rode Fjord and Fonfjord among others. It covers a total system area of roughly 38,000 square kilometers, reaches an average depth of about 500 meters and a maximum depth of 1,450 meters, and holds Milne Land, at 3,913 square kilometers the system's largest island, within its basin. It ranks among the largest and longest fjord systems in the world, and its single permanent settlement, Ittoqqortoormiit, had a population of 326 as of 2026.
