Abakan is the capital city of the Republic of Khakassia in Russia, located in the central part of the Minusinsk Depression at the confluence of the Yenisei and Abakan rivers. Its population was 165,214 at the 2010 census, a slight increase over the 165,197 recorded in 2002 and a further increase from 154,092 recorded in 1989.
