Al-Bab is a Syrian city in the Aleppo Governorate, about 40 kilometers northeast of Aleppo and 30 kilometers south of the Turkish border. It covers an area of 30 square kilometers at an elevation of 471 meters above sea level. The city had approximately 63,069 residents in 2004, a figure that grew to roughly 100,000 during the Syrian Civil War.
