Albury is a major regional city in the Murray region of New South Wales, Australia, on the Hume Highway at the New South Wales-Victoria border. It forms a twin-city pair with Wodonga, Victoria, across the Murray River, and had an urban population of 53,677 at the 2021 census, with the combined Albury-Wodonga urban area reaching about 97,793. Albury was officially proclaimed a city in 1946; its name is said to derive from a village in Surrey, England, while its Aboriginal name is Bungambrawatha in the Wiradjuri language, and the settlement grew as a transport and commercial hub connecting New South Wales and Victoria after the 1851 border separation.
