Alinda

Alinda was an ancient inland city of Caria, in what is now Aydin Province, Turkey, built on a hilltop overlooking a fertile plain near the modern town of Karpuzlu. Some scholars identify it with the Hellenistic foundation known as Alexandria ad Latmum. The Carian queen Ada held the city as her stronghold and received Alexander the Great there in 334 BCE, and Alinda minted its own coinage from the third century BCE into the third century CE; its ruins today include a Roman theatre, an aqueduct, a marketplace, temples and Carian tombs.
