'Amran is a small city in western central Yemen, capital of 'Amran Governorate and formerly part of Sana'a Governorate. It lies about 53 kilometers northwest of the Yemeni capital, Sana'a, and had a population of 76,863 at the 2004 census, estimated at 92,763 in 2013.
