Ancona is a city and seaport in the Marche region of central Italy, and the capital of both the homonymous province and the region. It has an estimated population of around 99,469 as of 2025, and is located 280 kilometers northeast of Rome on the Adriatic Sea, between the slopes of the two extremities of the promontory of Monte Conero, Monte Astagno and Monte Guasco, its hilly setting a strong contrast to the flatter coastline further north.
