Angeles City is a highly urbanized city in the Central Luzon region of the Philippines, grouped with Pampanga province for statistical purposes but politically independent of it, with a population of 462,928 at the 2020 census. It rose to prominence as the site of Clark Air Base, once the largest United States military facility outside the American mainland; after the base closed in 1991 the area was redeveloped as the Clark Freeport Zone, and the city, together with Clark, now anchors Metro Clark, an urban area of about 1.6 million people serving as a business, industrial and tourism hub for Central Luzon.
