Arica is a port city and commune in the Arica Province of northern Chile's Arica y Parinacota Region, and is Chile's northernmost city, located only 18 kilometers south of the border with Peru. It is the capital of both the Arica Province and the Arica y Parinacota Region, sitting at the bend of South America's western coast known as the Arica Bend or Arica Elbow, where the Azapa and Lluta valleys, which dissect the Atacama Desert and provide citrus and olives for export, converge.
