Artace

Artace, also called Artake, was a town of ancient Mysia near Cyzicus, founded as a Milesian colony on the same peninsula as Cyzicus, about 40 stadia away. In Greek mythology it was said to be the place where the Argonauts exchanged the stone anchor of the Argo for a larger one. The town was burned along with Proconnesus during the Ionian Revolt under Darius I and appears not to have been rebuilt for some time, since Strabo does not list it among Mysian towns in the first century, though he mentions a wooded mountain and island of the same name nearby. By the time of Procopius, Artace had been rebuilt as a suburb of Cyzicus.
