Bad Nieuweschans is a village in the northeastern Netherlands, on the border with Germany, within the municipality of Oldambt. Its original name, Nieuweschans, means new fortification, reflecting its origin as a military stronghold. In 2009 the word Bad, meaning spa, was added to the village name to promote it as a tourist destination.
