Bagansiapiapi

Bagansiapiapi is a city on Sumatra's east coast in Indonesia's Riau province, capital of Rokan Hilir Regency on the Rokan River delta across the strait from Malacca, with 73,360 residents at the 2013 census and a majority ethnic Chinese population of about 59.55 percent. Settled by Chinese immigrants in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, it became one of Indonesia's largest fish-producing towns, ranked the world's second-highest fish producer after Bergen, Norway, at its peak in the 1980s and 1990s, and it is known today for its annual Chinese heritage barge-burning festival.
