Basavanagudi
Southern Asia
Basavanagudi is a residential and commercial locality in the southern part of Bengaluru, in the Indian state of Karnataka. It lies along the borders of the Jayanagar neighborhood and the Lalbagh Botanical Gardens and is one of the oldest parts of the city, home to Kannada and Tamil inscriptions. The locality takes its name from the Bull Temple, or Basavanagudi, which houses a monolithic statue of the Nandi bull; in Kannada, basava means bull and gudi means temple. Its main commercial street, DVG Road, carries retail businesses dating back to the 1920s and 1930s.
