Bathurst is a city in the Central Tablelands region of New South Wales, Australia, about 200 kilometers west-northwest of Sydney, seat of Bathurst Regional Council, established in 1815 as the oldest inland settlement in Australia. It recorded a population of 37,396 at the 2021 census, and earned the nickname Gold Country after Australia's first payable gold discovery nearby in 1851 sparked the nation's first gold rush. Bathurst is internationally known for the Mount Panorama motorsport circuit, also called Wahluu, home of the annual Bathurst 1000 race, and its historic centre still holds many buildings from the gold rush era.
