Bátonyterenye is a town in Nógrád County, Hungary, lying under the Mátra mountain range beside the Zagyva river. It was formed in 1984 through the unification of four settlements, Kisterenye, Maconka, Nagybátony, and Szúpatak, and received town status in 1989. Historically a socialist-era mining town, it was significantly affected by the later closure of its mines, and it is served by two railway stations, Kisterenye in the north and Nagybátony in the south, on the Hatvan-Filakovo line. The 2022 census recorded 11,296 residents.
