Beit She'an

Beit She'an is a city in Israel's Northern District, in the Jezreel Valley about 120 meters below sea level at the strategic junction of the Jordan River Valley and the Jezreel Valley, with 20,252 residents as of 2024. One of the region's oldest continuously significant sites, it served as a major Egyptian administrative center in the Late Bronze Age, became the leading city of the Decapolis under Roman rule as Scythopolis, and was capital of the Byzantine province of Palaestina Secunda; excavations at the site have uncovered no less than eighteen successive ancient towns, and the ruins, now a national park, have been on UNESCO's tentative World Heritage list since 2000.
