Berettyóújfalu is a town in Hajdú-Bihar county, in the center of the Northern Great Plain region of eastern Hungary, near the border with Romania. It lies about 35 kilometers south of Debrecen, Hungary's second largest city, and about 40 kilometers west of Oradea, Romania's tenth largest city. The town takes its name from the Berettyó river.
