Birkirkara is a town in Malta's Northern Harbour District, occupying 2.7 square kilometers, with 30,166 residents as of July 2026 making it the second most populous locality on the island. First recorded in 1402 and the largest parish on Malta by an 1436 ecclesiastical report, it later gave rise to several other towns and suburbs, including Sliema and St. Julian's, that split off from it over the centuries.
