Bordeaux is a city on the river Garonne in the Gironde department of southwestern France, serving as capital of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. It is world famous as the center of one of the largest and most prestigious wine-growing regions on earth, with the surrounding vineyards and the historic river port that shipped their output shaping the city's economy and identity for centuries; its eighteenth-century core is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
