Brandenburg an der Havel is a town in the German state of Brandenburg, on the banks of the River Havel, which served as the capital of the Margraviate of Brandenburg until it was replaced by Berlin in 1417. It gave its name to the medieval Bishopric of Brandenburg, the Margraviate of Brandenburg and the present day state of Brandenburg, and had a population of 73,945 as of 2025; though now a small town compared with nearby Berlin, it was the original nucleus of the former realms of Brandenburg and Prussia.
