Brandon is a city on the Assiniboine River in southwestern Manitoba, Canada, 197 kilometers west of Winnipeg, with a population of 51,313 at the 2021 census. It was established in 1881 when the Canadian Pacific Railway selected the site, taking its name from the nearby fur-trade post of Brandon House, and was incorporated as a city the following year in 1882; it is Manitoba's second-largest city and serves as the economic hub of the province's southwestern region.
