Brilon is a town in the Hochsauerlandkreis district of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, situated in the Sauerland upland region. It was granted town rights in the thirteenth century and was historically a member of the Hanseatic League, with mining and forestry long important to its economy. The town's old center retains a substantial medieval and early modern townscape, and the surrounding Sauerland hills support a significant tourism and outdoor recreation economy today.
