Bulolo

Bulolo is a town in Morobe Province, Papua New Guinea, about 32 kilometers northwest of Wau at roughly 700 meters elevation. It grew up around large scale gold dredging that began in March 1932, when dredge equipment was airlifted from Lae in sections; eight dredges eventually worked the valley, with production peaking around 122,000 ounces in 1952 before operations wound down, and the abandoned dredges still sit in the riverbed today. The town's economy has since shifted toward forestry, anchored by PNG Forest Products Limited.
