Bunbury is a port city in Western Australia's South West region, about 175 kilometres south of Perth, established in 1836 on the orders of Governor James Stirling and named for Lieutenant Henry William St Pierre Bunbury. It is Western Australia's third most populous city after Perth and Mandurah, with an urban population of 76,452 at the 2021 census, and its economy rests on mining and mineral processing alongside agriculture, timber and tourism. It is home to SIMCOA, Australia's only silicon manufacturing company, and was linked to Perth by the South Western Railway from 1893.
