Caesaraugusta, or Caesar Augusta, was the Roman name of the city of Zaragoza, founded as a colonia immunis from Rome in 14 BC, possibly on December 23, on the site of the intensely Romanized Iberian city of Salduie. Its founding occurred as part of Caesar Augustus's reorganization of the provinces of Hispania following his victory in the Astur-Cantabrian Wars.
