Campinas is a city in the Brazilian state of Sao Paulo, located 84 kilometers northwest of the city of Sao Paulo, with an estimated 2024 population of about 1.19 million. Once a center of coffee cultivation in the nineteenth century, Campinas transformed over the twentieth century into a major hub for technology, aerospace research and higher education, hosting research institutions and universities that have earned it comparisons to a Brazilian Silicon Valley.
