Cancun is the most populous city in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo, on the northeast coast of the Yucatan Peninsula and the seat of the municipality of Benito Juarez. Situated on the Caribbean Sea, it is a major tourist destination and one of Mexico's easternmost points, encompassing the Hotel Zone tourist area just north of the Riviera Maya resort coast.
