Catanzaro

Catanzaro is the capital of Italy's Calabria region, on a ridge overlooking the Gulf of Squillace between the Ionian and Tyrrhenian coasts, with 86,186 residents as of 2020, the region's second most populous comune after Reggio Calabria. Between the 9th and 11th centuries it became Europe's leading center of silk production, with Calabrian silk reaching half of all Italian and European output, earning the city its nickname the City of the Two Seas; it was named Calabria's official regional capital in 1970 and today hosts the Magna Graecia University, the region's second largest.
