Catbalogan is a component city and the capital of Samar province, in the Eastern Visayas region of the Philippines. Founded by Spanish Jesuit missionaries in October 1596 and chartered as a city in 2007, a status the Supreme Court restored permanently in 2011 after a legal challenge, it had a 2024 census population of 107,896 across 274.22 square kilometers. The city serves as Samar main commercial, trading, educational, financial and political center and hosts Camp General Vicente Lukban, headquarters of the Philippine Army 8th Infantry Division.
