Chang'an was the capital city of several Chinese dynasties, among them the Western Han and the Tang, from 202 BC to 907 AD, located in China's Shaanxi Province on the site that is now central Xi'an. At various times it was the largest city in the world, and around 750 AD Chinese records called it a million man city. Liu Bang moved his court to the Changle Palace in 200 BC, and the Weiyang Palace became the largest palace ever built. After the warlord Zhu Wen forced most of its remaining population to move to Luoyang in 904 AD it became a minor centre, and the Ming dynasty later settled on the name Xi'an and built walls around the former Sui and Tang palace district.
