Chinggis City is the capital of Khentii Province in eastern Mongolia, about 290 kilometers east of Ulaanbaatar. It was known as Ondorkhaan until 18 November 2013, when it was renamed Chinggis City in honor of Genghis Khan, who is believed to have been born, and possibly buried, in the same province to the north of the city. As of 2017 the town had a population of 20,935 across an area of 3,788 square kilometers. Under its former name, the town was the site where Chinese Vice Chairman Lin Biao died in a plane crash on 13 September 1971.
