Ciamis is a town in West Java, Indonesia, seat of Ciamis Regency, with a mid-2024 population estimate of 102,059 across 33.80 square kilometers. Its government center moved to the site, then called Barunay or Imbanagara, on 12 June 1642, though the regency traces its deeper history to the Galuh Kingdom, traditionally founded on 23 March 612 by Wretikkandayun, and the town takes its name from the Ciamis River, Sundanese for sweet river.
