Coimbatore, also known as Kovai, is a metropolitan city in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, located on the banks of the Noyyal river and surrounded by the Western Ghats. Long known as the Manchester of South India for its textile mills, Coimbatore has since diversified into engineering, manufacturing and information technology while remaining one of Tamil Nadu's most important industrial centers.
