Colón is a municipality and city in Matanzas Province, Cuba, the third largest in its province, with about 68,021 residents in the municipality in 2022 and roughly 44,000 in the city itself. It was founded in 1836 under the name Nueva Bermeja and achieved the status of villa, or town, in 1859, when it was renamed Colón after Christopher Columbus.
