Creteil is a commune in the southeastern suburbs of Paris, in the Ile-de-France region, located 11.7 kilometers from the center of the French capital. It serves as the prefecture, or capital, of the Val-de-Marne department and the seat of the Arrondissement of Creteil. The city is also the seat of a Roman Catholic diocese and of one of France's thirty nationwide academies, the administrative districts of the Ministry of National Education.
