Crimmitschau

Crimmitschau is a town in the district of Zwickau in Saxony, Germany, on the river Pleiße in the northern foothills of the Ore Mountains, with 18,272 residents at the end of 2024. It was established between about 1170 and 1200 during German eastward expansion, first documented in 1212, and granted town privileges in 1414. The town was connected to the rail network in 1844 and became a major textile center by the early 1900s known as the City of 100 Chimneys, and from August 1903 to January 1904 it was the site of one of the largest and longest strikes in the German Empire.
