Cucuta, officially San Jose de Cucuta, is a Colombian municipality, capital of the department of Norte de Santander, located in a valley near the border with Venezuela. As one of Colombia's principal border crossing points with Venezuela, Cucuta's economy has long been shaped by cross-border trade and, in recent years, by large flows of Venezuelan migrants passing through or settling in the city.
