Cuenca, officially Santa Ana de los Rios de Cuenca, is an Ecuadorian city, capital of the province of Azuay and its largest and most populated city, crossed by several rivers including the Tomebamba. Its well-preserved Spanish colonial center is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and Cuenca is widely known internationally as a popular retirement destination for foreign expatriates drawn by its climate, architecture and lower cost of living.
