Dabie, Szczecin

Dabie is a former town and now a municipal neighborhood of the city of Szczecin in Poland West Pomeranian Voivodeship, situated on the Plonia River and the southern shore of Dabie Lake. A Pomeranian settlement on the site was destroyed in 1121 and rebuilt, then granted to a Cistercian monastery in 1176; Duke Barnim I founded a ducal municipality there in 1249, the settlement received Magdeburg town rights in 1260 and switched to Lubeck rights in 1293. During the Second World War it held a prisoner-of-war camp, was captured by Soviet forces on March 20, 1945, and passed to Poland under the Potsdam Agreement before being incorporated into Szczecin on April 29, 1948. Its population was 13,275 as of January 2011.
