Dingxi is a prefecture-level city in Gansu province in northwestern China, about 98 kilometers east of Lanzhou, with a population of 2,524,097 at the 2020 census, of whom 422,383 lived in the built-up area. Sitting along the Wei River on a landscape of loess hills and ravines with a semi-arid climate, the area served as an eastern gateway important to the early cultural development of China.
