Eichstatt is a town in Bavaria, Germany, on the Altmuhl river, serving as the seat of a Roman Catholic diocese since the eighth century and home to the Catholic University of Eichstatt-Ingolstadt. Its historic center, largely rebuilt in Baroque style after destruction during the Thirty Years War, sits within the Altmuhltal nature park. The surrounding limestone quarries have yielded important fossil finds, including specimens of Archaeopteryx.
